Game of Thrones Davos Actor Sent Kit Harington a Message About Jon Snow Spin-Off

Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham reached out to Kit Harington about reprising his role as Davos Seaworth in the upcoming Jon Snow spin-off series, but he hasn’t heard anything back.

In an interview with Den of Geek before the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike, Cunningham discussed the prospect of returning to Westeros for the Jon Snow series at HBO, noting he had already sent Harington a text message to register his interest.

“I did send [Kit] a text saying, ‘Better Call Davos,’ ” he said with a laugh. “I haven’t heard anything back. I wish them the best to whoever’s involved in it, and if the cheque is big enough, I might even show up again!”

Cunningham debuted as Davos Seaworth (AKA the Onion Knight) in Season 2 of Game of Thrones, serving as Stannis Baratheon’s right-hand man and the show’s de facto moral compass. After Stannis’ defeat and death at Winterfell, Davos forged an alliance with Jon Snow, quickly becoming one of his most trusted advisors.

Jon Snow is one of the most important characters in Game of Thrones, though his journey’s end was one of the more divisive elements of the finale. The final shot of the series was somewhat ambiguous as it showed Jon leaving King’s Landing to head North of the Wall with the Wildlings, making his next steps a little less certain.

The Jon Snow spin-off series is set after the events of Game of Thrones Season 8, reopening the door on the much-discussed finale of the original series to follow Jon on the next chapter of his journey and see how he deals with past traumas. Harrington was seemingly eager to return, having pitched the show himself.

However, there is no guarantee the show will ever get made. HBO’s Head of Drama Francesca Orsi cautioned the show is still in the “very early stages” and there is “no determination” on whether it will get the greenlight to go all the way, though it’s true that HBO is eyeing a three-season run for The Hedge Knight.
