Instagram’s X Competitor Threads Is Now on the Web

It’s about time: Meta has just launched a web version of its microblogging social media site Threads.

In a new post, Meta details how Threads on the web works. Previously, the web version of Threads was minimal, only allowing you to view a post or profile on the platform, with no ability to repost, like, or even log into your account from your web browser.

Like the mobile version of Threads, users can scroll through their timelines, like, repost, comment on posts, and follow/unfollow new accounts. The big differences with the web version are the lack of a notification section and the remaining navigation icons, which are housed on the top. The bottom left corner of the screen on the feed section allows you to toggle between the For You and Follower feeds.

Threads launched last month, offering an alternative to Twitter as Elon Musk continues to make major overhauls. Recently, he rebranded the platform as X and said he’s going to remove the block button (a statement that courted massive backlash), among the many other changes he’s made over the past few months.

As for Threads, one of the biggest complaints was that the platform was limited to mobile devices. Despite a strong start, Threads has seen a decline in users over the last several weeks, and it was reported that it had lost more than 80% of its active users. Hopefully, with the release of a web version, some of those users will return to the platform.
