The Meta Quest 3 Is Already Out in the Wild

Meta announced in June that it was working on the Meta Quest 3 with more info, including a release date coming this fall. But someone has already gotten their hands on Meta’s next standalone VR headset.

A user posted a video on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). The brief video shows the Quest 3 packaged inside a bland brown box with the Meta logo and “Quest 3” printed on the front of the box. The user then shows off the headset and controls, which look like it did when Meta announced the Quest 3 at its last digital event. The box looks a bit bland, but it is packaging, and there is no confirmation as to whether or not that is the final packaging for the Quest 3.

This is not the first time Meta’s next VR headset has leaked before its official unveiling. Last September, before Meta’s October fall event, someone leaked images and videos of the Meta Quest Pro, then known under its codename Project Cambria.

Although we know Meta’s next headset will retail for $499.99, we still don’t have an official release date, let alone a full list of specifications, to get a better idea of how it stacks up with other VR headsets in the market, including the Quest 2. Meta has already confirmed it plans to continue selling the Quest 2 even after the release of the Quest 3 for an undisclosed amount of time.

Though Meta’s Connect event kicks off on Sept. 27 with a keynote set to kick things off, the tech giant is likely to use the event to highlight its next standalone VR headset.
