Uncharted Movie Producer ‘Definitely Looking’ to Make a Sequel

An Uncharted sequel could be on the cards, as one of the movie’s producers has expressed a desire to continue Nathan Drake’s big-screen adventures after the commercial success of the 2022 film.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer Charles Roven shared his aspirations to make another Uncharted movie and confirmed he is “definitely looking” at further adapting Naughty Dog’s popular PlayStation series as a film franchise to continue the story of Nathan Drake and Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

“Oh yeah! We had a really good time with that movie,” Roven said when asked whether he would like to make another Uncharted movie. “The fans really liked the movie, and people who didn’t know anything about the game really liked the movie. So we are definitely looking to make another one of those.”

The Uncharted movie was met with mixed reviews from critics when it debuted in theatres last year, with IGN’s own review describing it as a “safe but serviceable sampling of a new globe-spanning adventure”. However, it drew in the crowds and struck gold with a $139 million global opening weekend box office performance.

Following its successful opening weekend, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman declared Uncharted “a new hit movie franchise for the company”, making many believe a sequel announcement was imminent, but, up to now, the studio has not officially set the wheels in motion.

It would undoubtedly be a welcome outcome for the Uncharted movie after it went through a bit of development hell on its way to the finish line, yet ended in a way that left the door open for a sequel, with its ending and post-credits scenes teasing another potential adventure for Tom Holland’s Nate and Mark Wahlberg’s Sully.
