WandaVision, Loki, and The Mandalorian Will Be the First Disney Plus Shows to Get Physical Releases

WandaVision, Loki, and The Mandalorian will arrive on Blu-ray and 4K UHD later this year, becoming the first Disney+ shows to get physical releases.

People can add the first season of Marvel Studios’ Loki to their collections on September 26 before WandaVision hits shelves two months later on November 28. The first two seasons of Star Wars The Mandalorian will be available on December 12, with all four releases going up for pre-order on August 28.

Physical media enthusiasts will no doubt get a kick from each of these releases as the Blu-ray and 4K UHD discs come loaded with never-before-seen bonus features while also being housed in steelbook packaging with collectable concept art cards and brand-new box art designed by artist Attila Szarka.

As the first one on the release calendar, Disney has more details about what fans can expect from the Loki Collector’s Edition. The discs will feature plenty of bonus material for viewers to dig into before Season 2 of the time-defying thriller debuts on Disney+ this October, including a special appearance from Frog Thor!

The extras included on the Blu-ray and 4K UHD release of Loki are as follows:

  • Designing the TVA – Step into the incredible set of Loki Season 1 with Production Designer, Kasra Farahani, and Tom Hiddleston while getting a sneak peek into Season 2.
  • The Official TVA Orientation Video – Miss Minutes explains the inner workings of the TVA timeline in her orientation video.
  • Gag Reel – Take a look at some of the fun outtakes on set with the cast and crew of Loki Season 1.
  • Deleted Scene: Loki’s Coronation – Mobius reviews some moments from Loki’s timeline, in which Frog Thor makes an appearance during Loki’s coronation.
  • Deleted Scene: The Standoff – Loki holds Sylvie hostage against the TVA in a standoff.
  • Assembled: The Making of Loki – Loki explores the series centering on the MCU’s chief mischief maker.

The announcement of these collector’s sets comes shortly after the news that Prey, Hulu’s acclaimed Predator prequel, is getting a 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release more than a year after it debuted on the streaming platform.

The market for physical media appears to be on the rise again, and it’s no surprise after witnessing companies like Warner Bros. and Disney slash content from streaming platforms such as Max and Disney+ — the latter of which removed Crater, an original sci-fi movie, from its platform less than two months after its release.

Physical media still very much matters in 2023. As IGN streaming editor Amelia Emberwing explained in a recent column, “You’re no longer purchasing media; you’re licensing it. That license exists until the company no longer exists, or until the company no longer decides to support the title.”
